Push pull trains with WAP 7 at each end..... only CR Rajdhani is successful. Reason is Between Delhi & Mumbai,, It has to tackle two ghat section 1.Sahyadri near Kasara and Vindhya ranges between Bhopal and Itarsi. Push pull does not need banker locos, their attachment and detachment detachment. and time for it. Western railway track from Delhi to Mumbai is through plains. Their push pull trains are on WAP5 Locos. WAP 5 weighs 70 tones where as WAP 7 weighs 125 tonnes. So it limits speed due to non compatible tracks on both railways. This factor limits total number of bogies driven by WAP 5 as loco designed to go faster but with limited bogies. WAP 7 can going along 24 coaches normal and 20 coaches AC but includes two generator cars. These are the limiting factors. All trains have to run at lower speeds while crossing bridges. Less number of bridges, faster the train. Geographical constrains, Condition of track and it's capacity, age old turns, are also To be taken in account. Indian railways are doing best they can.
